South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer made a strong case for his team’s inclusion in the 12-team College Football Playoff after Saturday’s dramatic 17–14 road victory over No. 12 Clemson, capping a 9–3 regular season.

The Gamecocks engineered a clutch fourth-quarter drive while trailing 14–10. Star quarterback LaNorris Sellers delivered a pivotal moment, scrambling 20 yards for a touchdown on third-and-16 to give South Carolina a 17–14 lead following the extra point.

Clemson responded with a late drive of their own, reaching deep into South Carolina territory with just over a minute remaining. However, Tigers quarterback Cade Klubnik threw a red-zone interception with 12 seconds left, sealing the win for the Gamecocks.

“I do believe we deserve a spot in the 12-team playoff,” Beamer said after the game. “I understand the committee has a tough job. They have to select the 12 best teams, and I get that we have three losses. But when you look at our strength of schedule, our wins on the road—we’re 4–1 on the road this year in tough environments, with our only road loss by two points—it’s hard to argue we’re not one of the 12 best teams.”

Beamer emphasized the team’s momentum and resilience. “There are some very deserving teams out there, but if the committee’s job is to pick the 12 best, you tell me: who would want to face this team right now? With the way we’re playing, I don’t think anyone would be excited to see South Carolina pop up in that bracket on Selection Sunday,” he added.
